iGuzzini

iGuzzini is one of the great Italian houses of architectural lighting, founded in 1959 in Recanati (Marches) by Raimondo Guzzini. Unlike its sister-house Guzzini, which moved into methacrylate tableware, iGuzzini occupies the technical territory of museum, public-space, façade, and high-end residential lighting. Its collaboration with Gae Aulenti in the 1980s-90s produces some of the most collectable pieces in the catalogue: Trama, Cestello, Pixar. LAPIERRE sources, electrically verifies, and restores vintage iGuzzini for the Paris market.

House history

Raimondo Guzzini founded iGuzzini in 1959 in Recanati, alongside the family business Guzzini founded by his brother Enrico in 1912. The Marches region in central Italy became one of the major poles of Italian industrial design in the post-war era. iGuzzini quickly specialised in technical-precision lighting — not just decorative, but designed for demanding architectural uses (museums, libraries, urban façades).

From the 1970s, the house allied with major Italian designers and architects: Achille Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, Bruno Munari, Renzo Piano. Aulenti became a central signature of the iGuzzini catalogue in the 1980s, where she artistically directed several residential and architectural lighting collections.

Iconic pieces we source

  • Trama (1989) — Floor lamp in woven metal designed by Gae Aulenti. Fine tubular structure covered with metal mesh, diffuse light through the weave. Highly collectable sculptural piece.
  • Cestello (1986) — Architectural wall light by Gae Aulenti, geometric metal structure, originally designed for public spaces but adopted in residential settings.
  • Pixar — Geometric pendant by Gae Aulenti, sharp forms and directed light.
  • Castiglioni for iGuzzini — Several 1970s-80s architectural lamps.
  • Tetragono Lamp — Technical architectural piece, prized by collectors of industrial lighting.

Recognising the authentic

An authentic vintage iGuzzini presents: iGuzzini + Made in Italy + model reference marking, thick oven-baked lacquer in original palette (white, matte black, graphite grey, architectural colours), period transformer, textile wiring for residential pieces. Large architectural pieces (museum lighting) often bear a metal plate with reference and serial number. All pieces we offer are electrically verified and brought to European standards (CE, French plug) before delivery.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the history of iGuzzini?
iGuzzini was founded in 1959 in Recanati (Marches, Italy) by Raimondo Guzzini, brother of Enrico Guzzini (founder of Guzzini in 1912). Unlike Guzzini, which moved into methacrylate tableware, iGuzzini specialised in architectural lighting — technical lighting for museums, public spaces, façades, and high-end residential interiors. The house collaborates with major Italian designers and architects: Gae Aulenti (Trama, Cestello, Pixar), Achille Castiglioni, Renzo Piano, Mario Cucinella.
How do I authenticate a vintage iGuzzini?
An authentic iGuzzini bears the iGuzzini + Made in Italy + model reference marking, engraved or screen-printed on the base or diffuser. Vintage pieces 1970-2000 use thick oven-baked lacquers in original palette (white, matte black, graphite grey, certain architectural colours), period technical components (transformer, E27/E14 socket depending on models), and textile wiring for residential pieces. The presence of iGuzzini adhesive labels with serial number reinforces authentication.
Which iGuzzini pieces do you source?
Our sourcing favours signature residential-use pieces: Trama Aulenti (1989, woven metal floor lamp), Cestello Aulenti (1986, architectural wall light), Pixar Aulenti (geometric pendant), Castiglioni for iGuzzini, Tetragono lamp. Editions from the 1980s-90s, when Aulenti artistically directed several iGuzzini collections, are the most collectable.
Vintage iGuzzini vs reissue — what's the difference?
iGuzzini edits its major pieces continuously. Vintage pieces from the 1980s-90s bear an era marking, original transformer, and textile wiring. Current editions integrate modernised wiring and often LED compatibility. A vintage Trama in good condition positions between 1,500 and 3,500 EUR, compared to 2,500-4,500 EUR for an equivalent new reissue. Large architectural pieces (museum or façade lighting) are rare on the secondary market and reach higher prices.
How is an iGuzzini delivered?
iGuzzini pieces are first architectural objects — often large, sometimes heavy, with technical components to protect (transformer, metallic diffuser). Wooden crate or triple cardboard packaging with precision foam. For Paris and Île-de-France, delivery in our internal van with installation. For France and Europe, specialised carrier for bulky pieces. All pieces are electrically verified and brought to European standards (CE, French plug) before delivery. Typical delays: 7 to 14 days.
