Vintage designer tables
Saarinen marble coffee tables, Charlotte Perriand desks for Cassina, Knoll dining tables, Italian 1970s consoles: the LAPIERRE tables selection brings together dated, signed, verified pieces. All have been sourced in France and Europe, controlled in our workshop, photographed from every angle with their editor markings. This page presents today's availability, updated with each new sourcing run. The scope covers the 1950s through the 1990s, with emphasis on Knoll, Cassina, Vitra, Steph Simon and major Italian editors (B&B Italia, Cassina, Zanotta).
Why choose a vintage table at LAPIERRE
A table is often a structuring piece of a room. It stays in place for years, sees uses come and go, marks the memory of a home. Buying a signed vintage table over contemporary production responds to several logics.
Material authenticity. Vintage tables 1950-1980 use materials of higher quality than current series production: solid marble from quarries now closed or under quotas (Arabescato, Calacatta, Verde di Mare, Rosso Royal), stabilised European hardwoods, metals lacquered in the original workshops. A 1960s Knoll Saarinen Tulip retains a black-lacquered steel base, precise top dimensions, weights conforming to original specifications. The contemporary re-edition stays faithful but the period piece embodies the exact material of the original blueprints.
Documented scarcity. Charlotte Perriand tables for Steph Simon, early-print LC10s, Joaquim Tenreiro desks or Aldo Tura tables don't reprint. Each piece is unique in its history, sometimes custom-made on commission. LAPIERRE documents this uniqueness on each listing, with period cues and known history.
Stable or rising market value. Tables signed Perriand, Le Corbusier, Saarinen, Knoll or Noguchi have held stable prices for fifteen years, with marked appreciation on certain segments (Perriand desks, Gabriella Crespi tables, Aldo Tura consoles). Signed furniture functions as a tangible asset: it holds value as long as traceability is documented. Our market analysis 2015-2026 details these dynamics.
Coherence with a referenced interior. A signed vintage table integrates into a project where material primes over marketing. It dialogues with other signed pieces without overloading: a Saarinen Tulip with four Knoll Cesca chairs is enough to structure a referenced dining room.
Our selection by sub-type
Coffee tables. Saarinen Tulip Knoll, Arabescato marble or white-lacquered top. Florence Knoll, marble top rectangular or square, chrome base. Noguchi IN-50 Vitra, asymmetric glass top on two-piece wood base. Le Corbusier LC10 Cassina, glass top on tubular structure. Italian 1970s coffee tables in travertine, marble, lacquer or polished metal (Mario Bellini, Tobia Scarpa, Willy Rizzo). Saarinen remains the most demanded coffee table, followed by Italian travertine pieces.
Desks. Charlotte Perriand for Cassina or Steph Simon, Pierre Paulin desks for Mobilor or Artifort, Florence Knoll desks, Scandinavian desks Hans J. Wegner or Finn Juhl. The desk segment has appreciated significantly since 2020, driven by remote work and demand for referenced home office pieces. Perriand desks in blackened pine or ash dominate sales.
Dining tables. Saarinen Tulip round and oval, Florence Knoll rectangular, Charlotte Perriand tables in ash or pine, Italian 1970s tables in marble or lacquer. Oval Tulip 6-seater is the most sought-after configuration for contemporary dining rooms, followed by Knoll rectangular in noble wood.
Consoles and side tables. Italian 1970s lacquered consoles, Eileen Gray E1027 side tables, Knoll side tables, Scandinavian nesting tables. Entry-level segment, ideal for integrating a first signed piece into a project.
Authentication and delivery process
LAPIERRE applies a standard protocol to each table listed. Marking verification: editor plate, label, serial number when present. For Cassina pieces at high counterfeit risk (LC10 and other Le Corbusier re-editions), we systematically cross-check with our Cassina LC vs re-editions guide. Dimensional measurement to the millimetre and comparison with period technical sheets. Material inspection: type of marble, wood species, metal finish. Discrepancies are flagged. Condition report: scratches, chips, stains, oxidation, flagged in the listing with photos.
Delivery is organised by zone. Paris and Île-de-France: direct LAPIERRE delivery, two-person team for heavy pieces, slots confirmed within the week. Mainland France and EU: Cocolis, with specific coordination for marbles and large formats. UK and outside EU: dedicated customs logistics, see post-Brexit guide. Marble tops are systematically transported flat in reinforced crates, never horizontal without bracing.
Reference use cases
A Saarinen Tulip oval in Arabescato marble with four white Tulip chairs composes the reference mid-century dining room. A Cassina LC10 in a living room, glass top on matt black structure, dialogues with a neutral contemporary sofa. A Perriand desk in ash in a home office combines raw material with historical signature. An Aldo Tura console in oxblood lacquer in an entrance hall creates a chromatic anchor. A Noguchi coffee table on a thick rug structures a reading corner. The logic: the table carries the project, the rest of the room breathes around it.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- How do I authenticate a signed vintage table?
- Vintage signed tables generally carry their markings under the top or on the central pedestal. For Knoll, look for an engraved metal plate or woven label. For Cassina, a hot-stamp marking with a serial number on Le Corbusier pieces. For Saarinen, an editor plate on the pedestal. The absence of markings doesn't automatically disqualify the piece, but requires cross-checking with period technical sheets (dimensions, finishes, materials). LAPIERRE photographs these cues for each table and indicates the certainty level on attribution.
- What's the difference between a vintage Saarinen Tulip and a current Knoll re-edition?
- The Tulip has been edited continuously by Knoll since 1957, which makes the distinction subtle. Differentiating elements include the foot (older versions have a steel-laquered base, while some recent re-editions use a plastic insert on entry-level models), the top (original Arabescato marble vs. similar marbles on certain versions), and editor markings. A Knoll Tulip from the 1960s has a price level distinctly above an equivalent recent re-edition. Our investment guide covers the gaps.
- How much does a vintage designer coffee table cost?
- Pricing depends on designer, editor, top material, dimensions and condition. A Florence Knoll table in marble sits differently from a Noguchi Vitra or a Cassina LC10. Pieces signed Charlotte Perriand for Cassina or Steph Simon command higher levels than series editions. Each LAPIERRE listing states editor, estimated year, exact dimensions, top and base condition. No price-baiting, the figure reflects documented market value.
- Is a vintage marble table durable?
- The marble of vintage tables 1950-1980 is generally solid, monolithic, with thicknesses above current standards. Original Saarinen or Florence Knoll tops are in Arabescato, Carrara or Calacatta marble depending on the version, traditionally polished. Durability is high, but marble remains porous and stains under acidic liquids (wine, lemon, vinegar). LAPIERRE delivers each marble table with a care sheet and offers, on request, a sealing treatment. Edge chips are systematically flagged in the listing.
- How do you deliver a heavy marble table?
- Vintage marble tables frequently weigh between 40 and 90 kg, sometimes more for large dining tables. LAPIERRE delivers directly within Paris with a two-person team, straps and protections. For France and Europe, Cocolis delivery is possible but requires specific coordination: floor access with adequate elevator, or ground floor. The top is always transported flat in a reinforced crate. Costs and lead times are confirmed case by case before validation.
- Which table designers are most sought after currently?
- Demand remains strong for Eero Saarinen (Knoll Tulip), Florence Knoll, Charlotte Perriand (Cassina LC10, Steph Simon tables), Le Corbusier, Isamu Noguchi (Vitra IN-50), Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh, Mario Bellini, Tobia Scarpa and Gae Aulenti. Charlotte Perriand desks have been continuously appreciating for five years. See our analysis of ten Perriand pieces 2026 for the detail of models to follow.
- Can I buy a table with a slightly damaged top?
- Yes, provided the defect is flagged and priced accordingly. LAPIERRE distinguishes wear marks consistent with the piece's age (light micro-scratches, small glass marks) from penalising defects (chips, cracks, deep stains). Marble tops can be repolished by a Paris-based marble specialist, with a cost communicated before intervention. Wood tops can be revived with oil or varnish. The product page systematically indicates whether restoration is recommended and its estimated cost.
